We Need More from Assemblymember Christy Smith, but She\’s Too Tied to the Problem

Santa Clarita, CA – The current political class in Sacramento simply is not getting it done. A recent report by the Los Angeles Times noted that, “One in five Californians pay more than 50% of their income for housing, according to the state Department of Finance.”

Further they reported that, “In Southern California, the six-county region’s median home price was $535,000 last month, unchanged from August 2018, according to a report released Wednesday from real estate data provider CoreLogic. The Los Angeles County median price rose slightly to $619,000. The median price in the nine-county Bay Area region was $810,000.”

Assemblymember Christy Smith has aligned herself with Sacramento political party bosses and special interests that refuse to address the fundamental affordability problems facing local residents. Photo opportunities and modest check presentations are good politics – but in order to really change the lives of the people in our community forgotten by Sacramento, we need bold leadership willing to challenge the political status quo.

“Our senior centers, local schools, and early childhood education facilities desperately need funds and help. But in addition to that, families, seniors and young people desperately need relief in the cost of housing, transportation, their weekly grocery bill, and monthly energy costs,” noted Suzette Valladares, candidate for State Assembly.

\”I’m going to challenge the special interest class and power structure that Christy Smith has aligned herself with. The status quo just isn’t working for thousands of our local residents, and that’s why I’m running for Assembly.\”

Background: An unlikely Republican story, Suzette grew up in the San Fernando Valley, the granddaughter of a farmworker who worked alongside Cesar Chavez in the vineyards near Bakersfield. She was blessed with loving parents who valued education, family and community responsibility. In 2012, Suzette became Executive Director of Southern California Autism Speaks. Her career is based on serving others, with a passion for early childhood education and advocacy.

After her mother’s passing in 2018, Suzette was asked to assume her mother’s role as CEO of Little Steps of Faith, a faith-based non-profit preschool that provides quality childcare to underserved families in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys.

Suzette and her husband Shane were blessed with their first child, daughter Charlotte, in April 2017.
